Articles include analysis of population trends across the country, and some info. on monitoring programs. Includes a menu of volunteer surveys that people can participate in. Audience is the knowledgeable birder. Back issues are available, though some are photocopies. Nature Saskatchewan (a.k.a. Saskatchewan Natural History Society) publishes one guide dedicated to bird-finding in the Regina area (100 km radius). In addition, their publication "Birds of the Elbow" has a large portion dedicated to bird-finding in a large area of southwestern Saskatchewan. The society also publishes another dozen detailed annotated check-lists to other areas of the province. These can also be mined for bird-finding information. The University of Saskatchewan Extension Service and Saskatoon Natural History Society publish a guide to nature viewing to the Saskatoon area that has excellent bird-finding information. It's also available through the Nature Saskatchewan bookshop.
All of these books are a great way to get prairie specialties like Clark's Grebe, Eared Grebe, Swainson's Hawk, Ferruginous Hawk, Marbled Godwit, Wilson's Phalarope, American Avocet, Black Tern, Rock Wren, Sprague's Pipit, McCown's and Chestnut-collared Longspurs, Clay-colored Sparrow, Baird's Sparrow, Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow, Le Conte's Sparrow, Lark Sparrow, Lark Bunting, Yellow-headed Blackbird, etc. Big Days there can range over 130 species. The area has very high diversity of breeding grebes, shorebirds and Emberizines.
