Rainy River Birds - June 2, 2002
Sighting reports originating from the ONTBIRDS mail server network are repeated courtesy of the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO).
Spent June 1 birding the Rainy River area and 117 species were found. The Emo sewage ponds had 2 pairs of Eared Grebes in fine breeding plumage and at the Rainy River ponds, 11 Ruddy Ducks (with males courting females) and a single Eared Grebe were found. Major warbler movement along Lake of the Woods coast with Blackpoll (males and females) being abundant. Most warblers were females. Dave Elder Atikokan, Ontario mdelder@nwconx.net

Birded the Rainy River area April 20 under sunny skys and high temp. of 6C. 78 species seen with highlights being a pair of flight displaying Northern Goshawks, great #s of migrating Am. Robins feeding in the fields and 2 WESTERN GREBES on the Rainy River at Oak Grove Camp. Lake of the Woods frozen solid and only open water was the river and sewage ponds at Emo and R.R.
