The newsletter publishes quarterly and focuses on the growing market interested in watching birds in Ontario. Ontario Birding News has a broad appeal, reaching people with all levels of experience, including the backyard birder.

Each issue has a number of regular features:
- Backyard Birdfeeding: helpful hints dealing with feeders, seed, attracting birds etc.
- From the Heart: a look at the work of volunteers at a wild bird rehabilitation centre
- Field Notes: a selection of field trip reports from nature clubs
- Regional Reports: seasonal summaries of interesting sightings from the north, south and east, with an overview of what happened in the previous quarter and why.
- Bird Tales: recount some of the more unusual bird experiences readers have had
- Birder Profile: a unique feature of the newsletter is a look at who's who in the Ontario birding world, with insights into the birding lives of Ontario personalities.
- Feature articles: these deal with a broad range of topics from birds in crisis and migration patterns to birding hotspots and stories about interesting birding experiences.
