Birding in Leeds / Grenville - Fri, 13 Apr 2001
Leeds and Grenville Report for the week of April 9th
This week has been a good week for birding around Leeds Grenville.
Starting Sunday the 8th there were two bluebirds, male and female checking out nest boxes in our backyard. Later that evening there was also a strange migration of Turky Vultures. For aproximatly fifteen minits waves of Turky Vultures streemed over our house in groups of two to ten, in a directly north direction.
Monday the 9th was a good day along the St Laurence near Mallorytown. Among the species present are Greater Scaup, Common Mergansers, Buffleheads, Goldeneye's, Canada Geese, Cormorants, Herring and Ring Billed Gulls, an Imature Common Loon, Mallards, Wigeon, Wood duck, Osprey, and hundreds of Tree Swallows.
Also seen on Monday near Lyn was a rather large mixed flock of chickadees and Golden Crowned Kinglets.
Wednesday the 11th produced a large number of birds around the Athens Area. There are large numbers of Mallards, Wood Ducks, and Hooded Mergansers in almost every open body of water, along with Canada Geese and Common Mergansers. The first female Red Winged Blackbird of the season showed up at our feeder's along with an imature male. The Pheobies have returned along with the Norther Flickers both herd on this day. Of special interest though was a male Ring Necked Phesant seen on the Mackavoy road just south of Athens.
That's all for this week, im planing some trips to Kingstone and the Redeau this long weekend so perhaps Ill have sompthing else interesting to report on.

Leed's Grenvill - Sun, 11 Feb 2001
Sunday Feb 11 2000
HelloThis is the first time I have every posted anything on this website, dispite the fact that I frequently check for new reports.
Today I took a drive down to Ivy Lea. Mallard's and Common Goldeneye's were present along with one black duck, however the most interesting species in the area were the Bald Eagle's. Three in total one Imature eagle and two adult birds.
The imature eagle was the first one I saw, and it took me at a disadvantage while filming a flock of feeding Goldeneyes. When the flock took to the air I followed them and as they flew right beside me the Eagle was with them and continued to pursue them in the direction of the bridge before giving the chase up. One of the adult eagle's appeared later and attempted to capture a Merganser with no succsess.
Affter the eagle's I decided to take a lead on a Norther Hawk Owl present in the Joycevill area. All and all it was quite the day for me in seing two fairly rare birds, and the Eagles were a first for me (and three in one day!!!)
