Hello Gord....Madeline van der Zweep.
I was exploring your webpages and checking for any interesting birding sights in my near area and couldn't help but notice that the St. Lawrence Parks area, which extends from Cornwall to Morrisburg Ont and beyond, is absent from any mention which can only mean that this fantastic birding area is not being reported about! Shame on us!! :)I know that there are quite a few avid birders in this area so maybe I, and some of the other birders can begin to put our locale "on the map" birding-wise......When we atlassed the Long Sault Parkway (for the Breeding Bird Atlas of Ont.) we found over a hundred breeding species alone on the parkway ( approx a 10 mile network of causeways and campgrounds on the St.Lawrence river between Ingleside and Long Sault).
Eastern Ontario is a well-kept secret from the birding world, I think! It has a diverse and varied topographie which ensures the livelihood of many species ....it is also one of the flyways for many migrating species.
So perhaps I can interest you in opening a slot on your page for reports from Eastern Ont.
The area covered would be Cornwall, Long Sault, Ingleside, Morrisburg, Prescott ( following the St.Lawrence) and north as far as Ottawa/Hull ......
Is there a special format that we are to use to supply info on our birds?....
Thanks for your attention.Sincerely,
Please include "Cornwall Sightings" in your title so that I will quickly know where it will get posted. Include directions when appropriate, and definitely closest urban centre. List species sighted with numbers if significant. Please include your name and e-mail address, so that other birders can respond or inquire about the sightings if needed.
Ottawa / Hull aleady has its own reporting website, therefore this website will cover everything in the far eastern section of Ontario except the Ottawa area. I know that this is a great birding area, and I am looking forward to personally birding some of it while participating in the Taverner Cup Birdathon on May 29th.
I am really looking forward to reports for this area. Please start sending in your reports!
Sincerely,
Gord Gallant
