Lauff) ** Greater White-fronted Goose (Anser albifrons) [Oie rieuse] 08.11 1 at Silver Lake, Lakeville, Kings Co. travelling with Canadas (J. Timpa, J. Tufts). A very elusive bird for many, it was last reported Dec. 8 (B. Maybank, J. Tufts) but is likely still in area. ** Snow Goose (Anser caerulescens) [Oie des neiges] 22.11 1 in Antigonish Co. (R. Lauff) ** Eurasian Wigeon (Anas penelope) [Canard siffleur] 19.11 two males at Beacon St. Dam, Glace Bay (C. & A. Murrant). On Dec. 5 these two were separately seen at the Glace Bay Sanctuary and Beacon St. Dam. (D. McCorquodale, R. Knapton) 11.12 one male at New Glasgow sewer treatment plant (K. McKenna) 12.11 two males at Sullivan’s Pond (T. Allison, T. Paquet). One off and on to Dec. 13 ** Harlequin Duck (Histrionicus histrionicus) [Arlequin plongeur] 24.11 2 males at Port George, Anna. Co. (P. & B. Giffin) 25.11 3 males at Mavillette, Yar. Co. (M. Newell) ** Gyrfalcon (Falco rusticolus) [Faucon gerfaut] 18.11 1 at Birch Cove Park (Denise Parsons) ** Willet (Catoptrophorus semipalmatus) [Chevalier semipalme] 02.12 an individual of the western race at The Hawk (R. Stern, A. MacLean, B. Forsythe) ** Mew (Common) Gull (Larus canus canus) [Goeland cendree] 24.11 one at the sewer(?), Antigonish (NSBS Field Trip) ** Lesser Black-backed Gull (Larus fuscus) [Goeland brun] Up to four adults are being seen in eastern Kings County. The best spots are at Canard Pond and in the general area including Saxon St. & Fred Thomas Road , and New Minas sewage ponds. ** Snowy Owl (Nyctea scandiaca) [Harfang des neiges] A good fall for this species with 4 on Cape Light and 1-2 seen in many other locales. Some were found dead or close to starvation. ** Red-bellied Woodpecker (Melanerpes carolinus) [Pic á ventre roux] 06.11 1 fem. at 34 Shady Lane, Mahone Bay (Joanne Hubley). Have to be patient for this one!! Still there though. 01.12 1 at Alumni Garden, NS Agr. College, Bible Hill (B. Jackson) ** Empidonax sp. (Empidonax sp.) [Moucherolle sp.] 05.12 1 at Schooner Pond. Most likely a Dusky but Least could not be ruled out (D. McCorquodale, R. Knapton) ** Ash-throated Flycatcher (Myiarchus cinerascens) [Tyran a gorge cendree] 01-7.12 An imm. male at Vogler’s Cove (discovered by A. Dean, id’ed by I. McLaren et al). First documented record for N.S. McLaren) at Point Pleasant park but has probably been present for a few days. It is a tail wagger and easily misidentified as a Palm or a Orange-crowned (gray back, yellow undertail coverts). ** Yellow-rumped (Audubon’s) Warbler (Dendroica coronata) [Paruline á croupion jaune] 05-12.12 an individual of this western race at Point Pleasant Park (A. Horn) ** Prairie Warbler (Dendroica discolor) [Paruline des pres] 04.11 1 on CSI (M. Newell) ** Yellow-throated Warbler (Dendroica dominica) [Paruline á gorge jaune] 04.12 1 at Point Pleasant Park, Halifax (A. Horn). This one found a partner and had 2 young…the first successful nesting in NS. The family group was still there on August 23.
