The Gray Hairstreak is a rare butterfly in Ontario. Jim Fairchild actually had a few opportunities to photograph this species in the Toronto area in 1999. It is considered a migrant in late summer, but widespead south of the border. This butterfly is truly gray, with large orange marginal spots on hindwing.

This Milberts Tortoiseshell was photographed by Jim Fairchild in his own backyard in 1999 in Scarborough, Ontario! This is one of my favouite butterflies found in Ontario. To me, it looks like a cat's eyes.

As you can see in the photo below, the underside of a Milberts Tortoiseshell is nothing like the topside.
